Welcome to BigRedCrab!
I’d like to take this time to welcome you to this blog. Although not everything is set in place just yet, I encourage everyone to take a look around. If you any suggestions for this blog, please leave a comment to this post.
My name is Aidem of US Spinebreaker. I’m a level 70 dwarf hunter of the Alliance. My long time companion is Stra. I’ve had Stra every since we were level 10. In fact, I cross all of Azeroth just to tame her. What kind of pet is Stra? If you couldn’t guess it before, she’s a big red crab.
Actually, she wasn’t so big when I first found her. After questing and leveling in Dun Morogh, I sought to find my crab. Being a member of the Alliance, I thought it would be most unique if I grabbed a crab from the Durator. After cutting my way through Stranglethorn Vale, I jumped aboard a ship to Ratchet. There I ran up the coast to seek my future companion.
I searched and searched for the perfect red crab. The level range was 7-8. If I tamed a level 7, I would have to level her one extra level. Then sudden, there she was… just swimming up and down the coast all by herself. I went after her and when I became in range, whipped up my spell book and began taming the crab. Success was approaching, but so was an enemy horde. I was spotted! The horde began attacking me. I watched as my health and my taming channel raced to zero. Just a moment before I died, I tamed my crab.
It was now time for revenge. I returned to my floating corpse and called my crab. She was a little red crab. I could never imagine how big she would turn out. I named her Stra and went out to find the enemy who attacked me before. After a few minutes of searching, I found him. He was attacking tigers on the island. Hidden underwater, I targeted him and sent Stra to attack. It must have been a sight to see attacking a tiger and suddenly a little red crab comes out of the water to kill you. The enemy turned onto my Stra and began attacking it. Not much luck. The high armor kept the enemy at bay while she clawed him without stop. The enemy ran further into the island and I called back my pet. I peeked above the waterline to find the last moments of the enemy’s life as he was trailed by near a dozen tigers. The enemy was dead and a new friend… found.

Horray for Crabs!
Not much else to say, other than a high-five of support from this Crab-tamer. (who is also using a lvl 6 red surf crawler, whio is sitting pretty at lvl 59 (soon to be 62 once I get around to levelling more).

Welcome to the community.
I tamed a pygmy surf crawler in darkshore about 2 weeks after release, and Frothy got me all the way to 60. I went with a raptor for most of BC, but got Frothy to 70 a few months later. I’ll probably take him through WotLK instead of the raptor.
I’ve been doing a review of all the families at level 70, and Crabs definitely earned their spot on the recommended list. There are better pets, but you can do much worse. Honestly, focus dumps are the key.
If you’re interested in hunter theorycrafting, I highly recommend the forums at TKAsomething.com . They might be the smartest WoW community on the web.

Shattered Moon
I’ve been playing WoW for 2 years now, but I just rolled a hunter for the first time this week. I have leveled 4 non-hunter alts through Azuremist and Ashenvale, and have always been taken by how cool looking the crabs were! They’ve always been my favorite beast out there.
So, now my hunter has her very own crab, lol. I’ve been a fan of BigRedKitty for several months, and now I’m adding your blog to my favorite hunter sites, as well!
So far I haven’t gotten any comments about my crab, but then again I’m still in the noob areas. It will be interesting to see what reactions I get as I level my hunter and her beloved crab. Cheers!
